Coroner identifies man killed by dump truck on I-526

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have identified a man who was killed when he was hit by a dump truck on I-526 while filling his car with gas.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office says that 37-year-old Obrian Fludd of North Charleston died at the scene of the accident from blunt force injuries.

Authorities say the dump truck hit and killed Fludd who was filling his car with gas.

The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. just before the International Boulevard exit. North Charleston police say a dump truck was traveling eastbound and struck a Lincoln Continental that was sitting on the shoulder of the highway with its lights on.

The dump truck driver told police he didn't see the car and only heard a thump. According to investigators, it appears the victim was outside the vehicle, putting gas in his car when he was hit.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
