CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Velux 5 Oceans around-the-world yacht race is getting under way again off the South Carolina coast.
The four skippers cross the starting line off Charleston on Saturday afternoon. The fifth and final leg of the race will take them back across the Atlantic to La Rochelle, France, where the 30,000-mile solo race began last year.
Brad Van Liew of Charleston is the race leader, having won all four legs of the Velux 5 Oceans. It's his third solo around-the-world attempt.
He finished third in the 1999 Around Alone, the predecessor of the Velux that began and ended in Charleston. Four years later, he won the Around Alone that was staged out of New York.
