4 boaters from SC rescued off coast of Ga. island

CUMBERLAND ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - The Coast Guard has rescued four people from South Carolina off the coast of Georgia's Cumberland Island.

WSAV-TV reports that 53-year-old JoLynn Kirkland and 62-year-old Keith Kirkland of Easley, S.C., and 35-year-old Larry Kirkland and 62-year-old Rodney Proffit, both of Greer, S.C. were rescued Saturday.

The four were in a 25-foot sport boat about 14 miles off the coast when it capsized. All four were wearing life jackets.

The Coast Guard got a mayday call followed by an emergency radio beacon notification.

The 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Sea Dog rescued the boaters and transferred them to a Coast Guard Station Mayport 45-foot rescue boat crew. Authorities from Florida also assisted in the rescue.
