Work release inmate walks away from Rock Hill job

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina prison officials say an inmate has left a work release program in Rock Hill without permission.

Authorities say 23-year-old Justin Barton was not at his job at Palmetto Recycling when officers from the Catawba Pre-Release Center came to pick inmates up Saturday afternoon.

Prison officials say Barton was dressed in a blue work shirt. He was serving a 10-year sentence for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature out of Chester County.

Prison spokesman John Barkley says Barton could be charged with escape and face up to 15 additional years in prison if convicted.
