A man accused of attacking a police officer and taking his patrol car has been behind bars several times.
Arthur Lee Thompson's rap sheet is more than eight pages long dating back to 1992 when he was 20.
His first run in the with the law in 1992, put him behind bars in 1993 for second-degree burglary. Over the years he had several charges of assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest. He was in and out of jail between 1993 and 2010.
In 2007, he was charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon and convicted to nine years. He was out in two years on probation, when he was charged again with assaulting a police officer and armed robbery.
In 2010 he was convicted to five years.
It's unclear why he wasn't behind bars during the incident last week. Summerville police say it started when they got a call about a shoplifter at Walmart who assaulted an employee. Police say an officer stopped Thompson and that he attacked the officer and took off in the officer's cruiser.
Since Thompson's latest arrest, he has been charged with throwing bodily fluids on an employee.
Thompson is facing several charges from the Summerville Police Department and highway patrol including assaulting a police officer and strong armed robbery.
