JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A high-speed chase on James Island caused two accidents Tuesday morning. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident which happened on Folly Road near the James Island Connector.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Major John Clark says a deputy attempted to stop a Jeep Liberty for reckless driving on Folly Road.
According to investigators, once the driver got on Seaside Lane, he began to drive in a reckless manner by driving on the wrong side of the roadway and passing other vehicles in a residential area.
Officials say the driver kept going toward downtown Charleston. As a result, authorities are investigating two separate accidents.
In the first accident, the Jeep struck a Toyota at the intersection of Secesssionville Road and Seneca Road. After authorities ended their pursuit of the suspect due to traffic conditions, another accident caused by the Jeep was reported on Highway 30 and Folly Road.
Authorities are still searching for the driver.
