COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - After a week of standing shoulder to shoulder with tea party groups, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is creating her own statewide coalition for the activists.
Haley said Thursday she is forming the Governor's Tea Party Coalition.
She announced the effort Tuesday at a Columbia Tea Party rally at the Statehouse that recognized politicians for work the activists like.
Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey said the volunteer group of tea party leaders will work with the governor on issues and advocacy. He said it will include leaders from around the state.
Tea party activists joined Haley on Tuesday as she called on the Senate to take up legislation limiting lawsuit awards. All week, tea party activists criticized a special deal with online retailer Amazon.com that Haley opposed but the House approved.
