The St. George Police Department arrested two people after officers found bottles of alcohol in a car in Dorchester County.
Authorities charged 22-year-old Jamisha Bernick Jenkins and 27-year-old Jemel Rasheid Jakes for shoplifting liquor at Ryan's Corner on South Parler Avenue in St. George. Police are still looking for another male suspect.
On Thursday, the owner of the liquor store called police to tell them that two people who were caught on tape stealing alcohol, were back in the store.
When officers arrived, they found Jakes walking towards the driver's side of a car. Jakes was asked if he was the driver of the vehicle and said that he was not. Jakes was arrested and passengers in the car, including Jenkins, were asked to exit.
A police report states that a search of the car revealed a black plastic garbage bag along with three other bags filled with several bottles of liquor.
When asked about the liquor, Jenkins said,"I will pay the store owner for the bottles that we took. I just want to go home."
The owner then got to the scene and identified Jenkins and Jakes as two of the people involved with last Friday's shoplifting. On that day, deputies were shown a video of a woman and two men taking multiple bottles of liquor off of the shelves inside the store and placing them in a large bag which the woman was holding.
Police say Jakes was also found to be driving with a suspended license and had an outstanding warrant for simple possession of marijuana.
Both were locked up at the Dorchester County Jail.
