Cops nail alleged Home Depot robber at Waffle House

GASTONIA, NC (WCSC) - The man accused in the armed robbery of a West Ashley Home Depot was arrested at a Waffle House near Charlotte on Friday.

An alleged Hells Angel member, 34-year-old Lawrence Shrewsbury was arrested Friday at a Waffle House in Gastonia, NC. Shrewsbury is charged with armed robbery, possession of a knife during a violent crime and assault.

Police say that Shrewsbury attempted to leave the Home Depot store without paying for merchandise on May 11. When he was approached by store security, Shrewsbury reportedly pulled out a knife and swung it at store employees.

The Charleston Police Department worked alongside U.S. Marshals to launch a fugitive task force called Operation Intercept.  A series of interviews with Shrewsbury's family, friends and associates helped investigators locate him just west of Charlotte.

"The collective effort and rapid response by all law enforcement in this case should be applauded.  Mr. Shrewsbury understands that there are consequences to every poor choice. Thanks to the law enforcement in this case, he will be held accountable for those choices," said Kelvin Washington, U.S. Marshal for South Carolina.

Shrewsbury is being held at the Gaston County Jail as he awaits extradition back to Charleston.
