A Dorchester County man says he and his roommate fought off armed men who beat down their door claiming to be police.
The men live in an apartment on Cedars Parkway off Ashley Phosphate. Courtney Davis says he didn't know what to think when he was awakened by three men yelling in his living room.
Instead of seeing men in badges he says he saw men in masks pointing guns right at his head.
"They were like, 'Where's the money at?' I was like we don't have any. They said, 'Stop lying!"' said Davis.
Davis's roommate, Phillip Adams Jr., heard the commotion and came out to the living room. Then he says he was dragged downstairs with the three robbers demanding money.
Davis said, "I thought they were going to kill us. We gotta do something. I looked at him, he looked at me. We knew we had to make a move soon."
Davis says one of the robbers kept pointing the gun back and forth between him and Adams. Fearing for both their lives, Davis made the first move.
"When he pointed the gun back at him, I rushed him, we started fighting and the gun went off,"said Davis.
A bullet hit Adams in the forearm, but that didn't stop him from fighting back.
"My roommate hit him with a stool, the guy broke loose and ran out of the apartment," Adams said.
Davis says he could only think of one thing while rushing Adams to the ER.
"I had a friend that was killed in a home invasion 6 months ago and that's all I thought about," Davis said.
Adams was taken to the hospital.
