COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The Cherokee County coroner says two people have died in a fiery crash on Interstate 85 that damaged the S.C. 150 bridge over the interstate.
Coroner Dennis Fowler says the driver of a tractor trailer was ejected from his truck when it hit the bridge abutment and burst into flames Sunday morning. The second victim was found in the sleeper section of the truck after the fire was put out.
Fowler says he is working to identify the victims and notify the next of kin.
The state Transportation Department says the bridge is closed until it can be repaired. Northbound traffic on I-85 near Gaffney is being rerouted to a frontage road and northbound lanes likely will be closed for at least 24 hours.
