Police: Man jailed for beating teen, breaking belongings

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Authorities arrested a 35-year-old man accused of hitting a teen and breaking his belongings in Goose Creek. The Goose Creek Police Department charged Billy Carlton Wiggins Jr. with unlawful conduct towards a child.

Police responded to a Goose Creek home Monday afternoon in reference to a man and a teenager getting into a physical disagreement. The teen said that he and Wiggins started to argue because Wiggins kept saying no to everything he said.

According to investigators, Wiggins pushed the boy to the floor and took his Playstation 2. The boy said when he asked Wiggins what he was doing, Wiggins slammed a door and left the room. At one point, the boy said he left the building and slammed the door in the man's face.

A police report states that Wiggins then pushed the boy up against a wall and punched him in the back. The boy said he then ran and got a baseball bat because he did not know what Wiggins was going to do next.

The boy went on to say that Wiggins started to break his belongings. The boy said as he attempted to stop the suspect, Wiggins grabbed his hair. He then said that the man struck him in the back with a wooden stick after the boy hit the wall with a baseball bat.

One of the responding officers said he saw several cuts and bruises on the boy and found a bruise that is consistent with being struck by an object. The boy's left hand was also swollen and had blood on it. Investigators say that the boy's laptop had been struck by something as well.

Wiggins was charged with unlawful conduct towards a child and is being held in the Berkeley County Detention Center under a $35,000 bond.
