Family of 8 displaced after Summerville fire

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Red Cross assisted a Summerville family of eight, including three children whose home was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning.

The fire happened at 2304 Highway 17 S in Summerville. The Old Fort Fire Department Responded.

The Red Cross provided the family temporary lodging at a nearby hotel, financial assistance to help replace the food and clothing that were lost in the fire, comfort kits filled with personal emergency supplies, toys for the children and formula for the infant.

The Red Cross has assisted 1,089 individuals needing emergency aid due to disasters, such as home fires in its seven-county region of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties since its fiscal year began July 1, 2010, including 441 since January 1, 2011.
