WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Walterboro police arrested a man Thursday night for drug possession after a traffic safety checkpoint uncovered drugs in the suspect's car.
A Walterboro police officer stopped a yellow Buick around 11:30 p.m. on Paul Street. According to police, while the suspect was looking for his license, the officer observed a small clear plastic bag tied in a knot sitting on the door handle.
According to the police report, the suspect appeared to be very nervous and attempted to cover the bags, which had an off-white rock substance inside, with his arm.
The suspect was asked about the drugs and he handed the narcotics to the officer. The suspect was then searched and a small bag of marijuana was found in his front pocket. The suspect also had an open container in the vehicle.
The suspect was cited and placed under arrest. The vehicle was picked up by his wife.
He was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of crack cocaine and open container.
