Attorneys defending jail lawsuit trying to keep porn out of facility

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Attorneys defending a religious freedom lawsuit against the Berkeley County detention center say if the suit is successful, inmates will have access to pornographic materials.

At a press conference Friday afternoon, lawyers for the jail said The U.S. Department of Justice and the American Civil Liberties want a judge to allow inmates to have porn, in addition to religious materials.

"For us to allow naked photos or Playboys in the jail would really invite lawsuits because inmates are not entitled to have Playboy and Hustler, but on the other hand, female correctional officers are entitled not to be forced to look at that kind of stuff in the place where they work," said attorney Sandy Senn.

Department of Justice and ACLU lawyers will ask a judge on June 14th to grant a preliminary injunction to allow the pornographic materials into the jail.
