400 jellyfish stings reported in one day

ORLANDO, FL (CNN) - Beachgoers on Florida's Atlantic coast are keeping a close watch on the water for jellyfish.

Lifeguards said there were 400 stings reported Thursday in the Cocoa Beach area, east of Orlando.

Officials are blaming the wind for bringing the high number of jellyfish to shore.

Most are of the cannonball variety, which can sting, but are not as harmful as the Portuguese Man o' War.
