Moncks Corner Rep. Umphlett passes away

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Berkeley County is saying goodbye to a long time Representative of Moncks Corner.

According to the Berkeley County Coroner's Office 69-year-old C. David Umphlett Jr. died Sunday morning. Umphlett was diagnosed with pancreatic Cancer.

Rep. Umphlett represented District 100 since 2003 which covers parts of Moncks Corner, Cordesville and Macedonia. He attended Clemson University and served in the United States Army from 1961-1964.

Governor Nikki Haley said on Monday, "The people of Berkeley County – and indeed the people of our state – have lost a true public servant and friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of David Umphlett. He will be missed."

He leaves behind his wife and three children.
