Google helps develop Web history on Moncks Corner

MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - Google is teaming up with students from Berkeley County and the town of Moncks Corner to put a history of the town on the Web.

Officials announced Wednesday the project is part of the celebration of the town's 125th anniversary.

The students are using a 3-D software tool from Google and Google Earth to create renderings of buildings in the town, highlight their historical significance and share it with the world.

The project is modeled after "Creating Hartford" where students in Vermont created a virtual version of their community online.

Google has a server farm in Berkeley County that employs about 200 people.
