2 arrested after police stop stolen car during chase

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Police have arrested two people after authorities were led on a car chase that started in North Charleston and ended on Johns Island.

The North Charleston Police Department charged 21-year-old William Joseph Owens of Johns Island with failure to stop for blue lights and possession of a stolen vehicle. Thomas Dempsey, 27, of Johns Island is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

Authorities say they attempted to stop a stolen 1999 Volkswagen Eurovan in the area of Rivers and Cosgrove avenues around 2 p.m.

According to investigators, the driver, Owens, did not stop and got onto I-26. Authorities then used stop sticks along River Road on Johns Island to stop the car.

A police report states the two suspects were both taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

No accidents or injuries were reported.
