A Goose Creek family experienced a fire that caused significant damage to their home Friday afternoon according to the Red Cross.
The Goose Creek Rural Fire Department received an emergency call at 1:34 p.m. After firefighters reached the scene, the flames were under control within 15 minutes according to Goose Creek Assistant Chief Bob Maibach.
A family of five was displaced by the fire. Their home experienced a substantial amount of heat, smoke and water damage.
After putting out the fire, the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department contacted the Red Cross to aid the family.
The Red Cross provided the family with a place to stay and gave the family food for their infant child. The Red Cross also helped the family replace medications that were lost in the fire.
The family is working with their insurance company to find out how much the damage will cost them.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
