Charleston man scratches off $200,000 on lottery ticket

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A Charleston man spent 25 days getting ready for $200,000. He won the prize scratching the South Carolina Education Lottery's Strike It Rich! ticket.

"I feel blessed to have won," he said while claiming his prize. "This is special."

But what took him so long to come forward?

"I didn't want to rush," he simply said. "I'm trying to be smart in how I deal with this money."

He told lottery officials he plans to use the winnings to make more money.

"It was definitely worth waiting on," he added.

As of this release, three top prizes of $200,000 remain in the $10 Strike It Rich! game.  Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 480,000.

Sonny's Citgo in Summerville received $2,000, a 1 percent retailer commission for selling the claimed ticket.

Approximately 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of funding for education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services.
