6 ducklings rescued from Folly Beach drain

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Firefighters on Folly Beach have helped rescue 6 of 8 ducklings that fell into a drain at a condominium.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported the baby ducks went through the pipe Monday morning and one died and another is missing.

Sybil Weekley at the Mariner's Cay condo complex says someone working on a new fountain noticed a mother mallard squawking near a drainage pipe.

The baby ducks slipped through the grate. Folly Beach firefighters removed the grate and the water rose and the ducklings went through the pipe and into a marshy area.

The ducks that made it through the pipe were placed with their mother.

Officials have put a net on top of the pipe to prevent any other baby ducks from slipping through.
