WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

Police arrested a 32-year-old man after officers say they found 6 pounds of marijuana and a handgun during a traffic stop in West Ashley.

The Charleston Police Department charged 32-year-old Roosevelt Lewis of Wedgefield with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

It all started Monday morning when an officer saw Lewis' car near the Interstate 526 onramp on Paul Cantrell Boulevard. The officer stopped the car since he noticed the car had an expired license tag and a cracked windshield.

During the traffic stop, Lewis told the officer he had a handgun in the glove box and he had smoked marijuana about 90 minutes earlier, a police report states.

A canine unit was brought to the car and led investigators to 6 pounds of marijuana inside of a trash bag in the trunk. Authorities say the marijuana has a street value of $15,000.

Lewis was locked up at the Charleston County Detention Center.
