CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Citadel has received almost $600,000 from the National Science Foundation for engineering scholarship for minority and female students who need help paying for their educations.
The president of the military college in Charleston said Thursday the scholarships are a chance for the school to help educate leaders from all walks of life.
President John Rosa says that preparing students for careers in science, technology, engineering and math will help create the educated work force that Gov. Nikki Haley says is a priority for South Carolina in the 21st Century.
The scholarship recipients will get academic support on campus and mentoring from engineering professionals in the Charleston area during their time at the school.
