JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Police have arrested a teen they say is responsible for breaking into five vehicles in a James Island neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
Charleston Police Department officials say 18-year-old Kevin Love Hutchinson broke into vehicles parked in Seaside Plantation. Specifically, the break-ins happened on Caperton Way and Ellison Run, police say.
A police officer was patrolling the area around 5 a.m. when he said he saw Hutchinson riding a moped. After trying to pull the man over, the officer said Hutchinson sped off before jumping off the moped and running off.
The moped, which was deemed stolen from a June 6 incident on Barbados Way, was recovered, along with a white bag containing iPods, car stereos, and GPS units, all reported stolen from the aforementioned vehicle break-ins.
Police say Hutchinson was identified due to a previous be-on-the-look-out, or BOLO, and he was taken into custody on Wednesday.
He is charged with 5 counts of breaking into a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
