WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - This weekend marks the fourth anniversary of the Sofa Super Store disaster that claimed the lives of nine firefighters. The City of Charleston will come together Saturday to remember the nine who lost their lives in the fire.
Charleston Fire Chief Thomas Carr announced plans for Saturday's anniversary at a press conference Thursday afternoon.
The site of the fire will be open Saturday for the community to come and pay their respects.
Firefighters and family of the fallen will go first in a private ceremony between 6 and 7 p.m. The public will be allowed in between 7 and 10 p.m.
The Charleston Symphony Orchestra will perform at the ceremony.
Carr will read the names of the nine men and a fire bell will ring for each.
