COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have arrested and charged a man and a teen girl in connection with a murder which happened early Friday morning on a Colleton County highway.
The Colleton County Sheriff's Office charged Edward Smalls of Walterboro on Friday with the murder of 25-year-old Atreyl A. Hollman, of Ruffin.
Also on Friday, authorities arrested and charged a 15-year-old girl with accessory after the fact of murder. Authorities would not comment on her involvement in the murder.
Smalls was locked up at the Colleton County Detention Center and investigators say more charges may be pending. The teen girl is being held in a juvenile detention center in Columbia.
The shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. Friday on Hendersonville Highway. According to the Colleton County Sheriff's Office, a 911 caller told dispatch that a young man ran up to their home asking for medical help.
Deputies responded to the scene and found a naked Hollman suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim died at the scene. His car was found a short distance down the road on Hendersonville Highway in southern Colleton County.
The sheriff's office blocked off a section of Hendersonville Highway near the Hendersonville Elementary School while they processed the crime scene. That road has since reopened.
