Murder suspect arrested following late night shooting

MEGGETT, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's office responded to a fatal shooting Friday night and has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder.

Costello Avon Milligan, 17, has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing Trevor Wiggins last night.

Police responded after receiving a call about a large party on Ethel Post Office Road. On the way to the area, police were informed that there had been a shooting at the party.

Wiggins was unresponsive when police arrived and was pronounced dead by the Charleston County EMS.

During their investigation, police found out that Wiggins reportedly arrived in the area on a motorcycle and was surrounded by a group of people. Witnesses stated that Wiggins got off the motorcycle, and Milligan pulled out a handgun.

The witness said Wiggins tried to run, but Milligan fired at him several times. Wiggins was reportedly struck once in his upper body. The shooter and several other unknown suspects fled the area in a vehicle.

Milligan turned himself in to Charleston County Detectives at around 4 a.m. Saturday. He signed a written statement that confirmed he shot the victim.

There is no reported motive for the shooting. Milligan has a bond hearing scheduled for Sunday.

The incident happened in Meggett, which is near Wadmalaw Island in Charleston County.
