WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - After years of dealing with bottleneck traffic, it's now smooth sailing for drivers taking the popular Glenn McConnell Parkway through West Ashley.
The $7.2 million project included the widening of Glenn McConnell, new turning lanes, new sidewalks and better access to the interstate.
County Officials say the purpose of the project was to improve safety, traffic flow and to make the area more pedestrian friendly.
The construction also included some earthen sound barriers to keep peace and quiet in neighborhoods along Glenn McConnell.
The project was paid for by a half-cent county sales tax that goes into projects by the Roadwise program.
