Authorities release 911 of fatal shooting on I-26

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities have released 911 audio of a woman calling for help after a shooting that left one man dead and resulted in a car crash that closed Interstate 26 for several hours Monday morning.

In the recording the woman is in shock over the shooting and asking for emergency personnel to arrive.

Listen here to the audio.

The highway was shut down near the Ashley Phosphate exit as North Charleston Police investigated the deadly car accident and shooting. The driver of the vehicle, 40-year-old Maurice Youngblood of Charleston, was shot and killed around 3:30 a.m. as he entered I-26.

The woman said she and Youngblood were traveling in separate cars to I-26. According to the woman, as she was traveling behind Youngblood, she heard several loud bangs and saw Youngblood's vehicle swerving.

According to a police report, the woman did not see any other vehicles on the roadway at that time. Police say when the woman went inside Youngblood's car, she saw that he had been shot and called for help.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office says Youngblood died from a gunshot wound and not from the car accident. The coroner's office is conducting an autopsy.

No arrests have been reported.
