Traffic lights out at intersection following deadly accident

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The traffic lights will be out at the intersection of Highway 61 and 17A in Dorchester County at least through Wednesday, following a deadly accident.

The Department of Transportation has placed stop signs at the intersection while crews work to replace a utility pole that was knocked down.

The coroner says 32-year-old Dustin Bowen from Williston, South Carolina, was killed in the accident around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night.

The Highway Patrol says he was traveling on Highway 61 when he hit a utility pole.  He was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene from massive chest trauma.
