Man charged with 5th Lowcountry bank robbery

A North Charleston man has been charged in connection with yet another bank robbery in the Lowcountry.

The Summerville Police Department charged 36-year-old Kelvin Barton with entering a bank to steal in a May 27 robbery of the Sun Trust Bank on Dorchester Road.

Investigators say Barton confessed to entering the bank to commit robbery. His bond on this robbery was set at $75,000.

This is the fifth robbery that authorities have connected to Barton, who was arrested in early June following a bank robbery and chase that started on Johns Island and ended on Dorchester Road in North Charleston.

On June 14, Barton was charged with a July 2010 robbery at the National Bank of South Carolina. Barton had been accused of robbing The National Bank of South Carolina in West Ashley in April and a State Credit Union in West Ashley in September 2010.
