SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Most of the Lowcountry hadn't seen substantial rainfall in weeks, but that all came to an end Thursday night.
Severe thunderstorms ripped through the Lowcountry, bringing rain, lightning and thunder to the area.
Storms hit Dorchester and Berkeley Counties around 6 p.m. before pelting Charleston County and the coastal areas with severe weather.
Residents reported down trees and power lines in many areas.
Most of the power is back on in the area Friday morning after the severe weather left thousands in the dark.
At one point, more than 2,000 people in Charleston County were without power.
The storm did however bring some much needed rain after record-breaking heat.
