70 animals rescued from animal shelter

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC - WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY (WCSC) - More than 70 animals were rescued from the Williamsburg Animal Shelter on Thursday.

Animal rescue and relief workers have custody of the animals and the group says that the shelter will have to update all of their equipment, re-train and re-certify all of their employees.

Officials say that a local vet will also inspect the shelter weekly.

Animal rescue and relief got involved after allegations of animal abuse and neglect at the shelter. Those allegations included improper disposal of animals, running out of euthanization drugs and selling donated dog food.

Animal rescue and relief wants the state to get involved and investigate the shelter.
