Dozens of pigs seized from Lady's Island home

LADY'S ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Animal control officers and volunteers have removed more than two dozen abandoned pot-bellied pigs from a home in Beaufort County.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that 28 of the animals were removed from a Lady's Island backyard pen Friday morning.

Tallulah Trice of the animal rescue charity HAND Foundation says the owner is now living in another state but left someone in charge of the home.

But authorities say the pigs had no clean water and were living in a cramped 20- by 30-foot pen when they were found Thursday.

Animal control asked the owner to release the pigs to the agency or face charges of animal abuse. Now, Trice is finding homes and medical care for the animals in hopes of preventing them from being euthanized.
