Handful of new school principals appointed in Charleston County

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Students and teachers still have time to enjoy their summer break, but a few schools will be under new leadership next fall.

At Monday night's Charleston County School District meeting the following appointments were made:

  • Michael Ryan was appointed as principal of St. Andrew's Middle School
  • Dr. Timothy Schavel was appointed principal of Hursey Elementary School
  • Celeste Couch was appointed principal of Ladson Elementary School
  • Teresa Nowlin was appointed principal of Memminger Elementary School
  • Robert Grimm was appointed principal of North Charleston Elementary School
  • Joe Sampson was appointed interim principal at St. James-Santee Elementary School
  • Jacob Perlmutter was appointed interim principal of Zucker Middle School
  • Lacarma Brown-McMillan was appointed interim principal West Ashley Middle School
  • Dr. Lisa Herring was appointed Associate Superintendent for Academic and Student Support
  • J. Melissa Matarazzo was appointed Executive Director of Achievement and Accountability
