BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that killed a 37-year-old man on Interstate 26 in Berkeley County.
The accident happened around 4:45 Tuesday morning around mile marker 197, near Sheep Island Road. Troopers say 37-year-old Leo Greenberg, of Hilton Head Island, was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he was killed.
According to authorities, the Jeep was traveling west on I-26 when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected and the Jeep went to the right side of the roadway, into the emergency lane, then back to the left side.
The vehicle overturned several times into the median, struck several trees and then caught fire.
Greenberg's death has been ruled accidental by the Berkeley County Coroner's Office. The cause of death is listed as blunt force head and body trauma.
The accident is under investigation by Highway Patrol.
