NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say a 38-year-old man who was out on bond for a sexual assault was arrested at a recycling center for stealing copper from a manufacturing plant in North Charleston.

The North Charleston Police Department charged Shawn Justin Burris with transportation of non-ferrous metal over 25 lbs and property enhancement.

Police report that Burris was arrested at a recycling center. Investigators say Burris was out on bail for a criminal sexual conduct incident that took place in May.

On May 12, officers responded to Diedrich Street in reference to an alleged sexual assault. The victim told police that she was at a friend's home when she was assaulted.

According to the victim, she and Burris were in the bedroom when Burris locked the door, grabbed her and threw her on the bed.

The victim said she began yelling and screaming when Burris began to take her pants off.

According to police, the suspect then forced the victim to have sex.
