CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Daniel Island resident and founder of Twitpic, Noah Everett, created a stir on Twitter Wednesday after tweeting that he was picked up by police for walking down his street "half naked."

"Getting arrested...in the back of a cop car now," Everett tweeted to his nearly 2.8 million followers at 2 a.m.

Everette also tweeted a photo he said was taken from inside the back of a police car. According to local law enforcement agencies, Everette was not arrested.

He also tweeted, "...I guess you can't walk down your own street half naked...who knew - I got a free ride home by the nice police officer."

Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis and Berkeley County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dan Moon both said that Everett was not arrested by their respective agencies.

In response to media reports about the tweets, Everette issued this explanation on Twitter: "For the record: I did not go to jail, I was detained last night for a period and questioned, I went for a late night walk in my neighborhood, which looked suspicious to the officer who was very polite..."

He went on to say, "I was clothed, I only had my shirt off which is what I meant by "half naked", I was not charged with anything... I was given a ride home as a courtesy by the officer. Lesson learned: watch what you tweet."
