CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Almost 200,000 tax reassessment notices have been mailed out to Charleston County residents. The county wants to make sure property owners fully understand the process.
Reassessment is required by state law to determine the change in the market value of property over a certain period of time. Because property values change, reassessment equalizes the tax burden.
Reassessments take place every few years.
When 2011 tax bills are mailed this fall, some property owners may see a decrease in their taxes, no change or an increase.
