Charleston reservists to deliver 80,000 pounds of goods to Haiti

As Americans celebrate their independence this weekend, a group of reservists from Charleston will go out of their way to help another nation in need.

Reservists from the 315th Airlift Wing in Charleston are set to deliver over 80,000 pounds of food and health supplies to Haiti this weekend.

The mission will involve delivering food to orphanages, clearing debris and helping to reconstruct certain areas. About 8,000 Haitians are expected to benefit from the food and supplies delivered.

This effort is possible thanks to Denton Amendment, a state program that allows humanitarian goods to be delivered using Air Force planes.
