CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The United States Coast Guard searched for two suspects early Sunday morning after they rammed through the security gate at the base on Tradd Street in downtown Charleston.

According to the Coast Guard, at around 12:50 in the morning two people approached the gate with their car and rammed the gate. An officer was notified and that's when authorities set up a command center for this incident.

The Coast Guard along with Charleston City Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation all assisted in the search for these two suspects.  A helicopter was also on scene to help locate the suspects on the base.

A K-9 Unit was able to locate the suspects at approximately 4:12 a.m. in the Buoy Yard on the U.S. Coast Guard base.

The two suspects, James Deese and Christopher Coward are both charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, and Coward the driver was charged with failure to stop for a blue light.  Both are being held in Charleston County Jail.
