CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -
Charleston fire officials said on Tuesday that two recent downtown Charleston fires were deliberately set.
Fire Marshal Mike Julazadeh said a fire at 96 Cannon St. on June 28 was intentional as was a fire on June 30 at 563 Rutledge Avenue.
Investigators say both fires were set on porches of the homes.
Authorities do not know if a fire at 247 Rutledge Avenue on June 30 is related to the two other fires. The fire destroyed that home and damaged two others. Authorities are looking at arson as a possibility in this fire.
Meanwhile, a local attorney who lives around the block from that fire said he will install a smoke detector on his front porch.
"I feel if I put something on the porch that I'll immediately know what's going on," said Jason Mikell. "If there's any kind of smoke or anything that could possibly be a fire, I'd be aware of it immediately."
Investigators are probing more than 50 suspicious fires in the area of the Crosstown since 2003. Authorities say most of the fires were started with furniture that was on the porches.
