BEAUFORT, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say two adults and three children were rescued after swimming to a deserted island when their boat sank Tuesday night.
The Coast Guard says they rescued the five near Otter Island in St. Helena Sound early Wednesday morning at 12:14 a.m.
The Coast Guard were notified at 10:02 p.m. on Tuesday from local 911-dispatch reporting a mayday distress near Otter Island.
According to authorities, one of the boaters had a cell phone and called 911.
A Coast Guard Station Charleston 25-foot rescue boat crew and an Air Facility Charleston MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew were launched.
The helicopter rescue crew safely hoisted the 5 boaters and transported them to Charleston Executive Airport.
There were no reports of injuries.
