N. Charleston man arrested on gun, marijuana charges

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - A traffic stop Thursday night resulted in an arrest on gun and marijuana charges.

Police officers initiated a traffic stop after a driver failed to signal a turn onto Constitution Avenue.

The incident report states that both the driver of the vehicle, Denzel White, and a passenger in the front seat, Akeem Young, appeared extremely nervous while talking to police officers. Young was breathing extremely heavily and sweating profusely. The report states that the air conditioner in the car was on, but White and Young still had sweat pouring from their bodies. The reporting officer also noted that the tone of their voices changed continually.

The officers asked the men to step out of the car. Officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded pistol under the driver's seat. White, 20, was then placed under arrest.

Police continued searching and discovered a plant that tested positive for marijuana. They later found three plastic bags of the same plant which also tested positive for marijuana. Police reportedly found about 2 grams of marijuana in total.

White was charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol and possession of marijuana. This is White's second marijuana charge. He was convicted of marijuana possession in 2009.
