Amateurs can try hand at PGA course

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC (AP) - The Ocean Course is giving amateur golfers brave enough a one-week opportunity to tee it up under PGA Championship conditions.

From August 1-7, organizers will set up Pete Dye's seaside masterpiece like the pros will play it when the PGA arrives next year. That's a layout of 7,606 yards with greens as fast as Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson will face next summer.

Cost of the round is $205 for resort guests. Kiawah Island director of golf Brian Gerard says it will gives golfers the chance to see how their game compares with the world's best players.

Dye built The Ocean Course for the 1991 Ryder Cup matches. The layout also hosted the Senior PGA Championships in 2007.
