Deputies: Columbia woman stabbed husband to death

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a Columbia woman has been charged in the stabbing death of her husband.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says 27-year-old Gary M. Vereen was stabbed to death around 1:45 a.m. Saturday in his Columbia home.

Deputies say Vereen tried to leave the home in his truck but only made it about 100 yards before he died.

Deputies say 25-year-old Ashley Vereen was arrested Saturday and charged with murder. Authorities said she was in the Richland County jail, and it wasn't known if she had an attorney.

Deputies said they had been called to the home several times before for domestic disputes in which the woman attacked the man. A 2-year-old child home at the time of the stabbing is staying with other relatives.
