JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Police say they have arrested a 33-year-old man after a standoff with police on James Island Monday afternoon.

The Charleston Police Department has charged Christopher Glenn Mishowe with kidnapping and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Police say it all started around 1 a.m. on Monday when Mishowe and the victim got into an argument at a home on Meander Row.

Investigators say Mishowe assaulted the woman and tied her up. At one point, Mishowe untied her so that the victim could go to the bathroom, police say.

According to police, while the victim was in the bathroom, Mishowe fell asleep and the woman escaped. The victim then went to the hospital and called police.

Authorities then responded to the James Island home trying to talk Mishowe into coming out of his townhome.

Police closed traffic to Rivers Point Row during the standoff. SWAT and hostage negotiators were also on scene.
