Daycare center to close after child wanders away

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - A daycare center in Goose Creek announced Tuesday that they will be shutting down. The announcement comes less than a week after a 2-year-old girl walked away from the center unattended.

Noah's Ark Daycare says it is closing its doors for good on July 31. The center says it will close down due to hard economic times.

Last week, the Department of Social Services was called in to investigate the daycare after Jeanette Jacobs saw a girl wandering onto a busy road after walking out of the center.

"She was in the middle of the highway," says Jacobs. "Between the white and the yellow line, trucking it, like she had not a care in the world."

Jacobs says she got to the girl just in time.

"There was a utility truck behind her," says the mother of two. "If I wouldn't have grabbed her or seen her, somebody could have hit her or somebody could have picked her up."

Jacobs says the director of the daycare finally came to the door and brought the girl back inside. She says they told her they were looking for her but not out on the busy street. Which is the biggest issue for the girl's mother, Stacey Paul.

"I can understand if my daughter was going towards the end of the driveway and somebody stopped that would have been one thing," says Paul. "But she was out in the middle of the road."

The facility has been investigated twice before for improper supervision.
