CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball teammates Matt Leeds and Daniel Aldrich were selected to the College Baseball Insider All-America teams, the organization announced on Thursday. Leeds was named to the first team, while Aldrich made the second team.
Leeds, drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 31st round of the 2011 MLB entry draft, was also selected to the Baseball America All-America Third Team, the NCBWA All-America First Team, and was picked as a Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team selection. A native of Boca Raton, Fla., Leeds was selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) as a Capital One Academic All-America First Team selection.
Leeds finished the 2011 season with a .345 batting average, 18 home runs and 80 RBIs, ranking third in the country in runners batted in.
Redshirt-freshman Daniel Aldrich, the 2011 TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby Champion, has already been selected to a number of All-America teams, while also being honored as the NCBWA National Freshman of the Year and Collegiate Baseball's National Freshman of the Year.
A native of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Aldrich led all Division I freshmen in home runs (22), RBIs (73), slugging percentage (.739) and total bases (164). Aldrich also had 25 multi-hit games on the season and had a team-best 17-game hitting streak in February and March.
